Harvey’s Broiler has been a landmark on Firestone Blvd. in Downey, California since it opened in 1958. Built by Harvey Ortner and his wife Minnie, the restaurant was designed by famed “Googie” style architect Paul B Clayton. Poeple soon came from all over the USA to experience Harvey’s. During it’s heyday, some 3,000 hot rodders and custom car enthusiasts would make the circuit from Grisinger's (now George's) drive-in, in Long Beach to Holly's (demolished after being featured in “Pulp Fiction”) in Hawthorne and on to the Wich Stand on Slauson and Overhill, ending in Downey at none other than the World Famous Harvey’s Broiler.

BOB'S BIG BOY IN NEGOTIATIONS TO REBUILD THE BROILER!

News is spreading like wildfire since we received the official announcement from the City of Downey that Bob's Big Boy and the owner of Johnie's Broiler are working together to come to terms on rebuilding The Broiler!! As you know, The Broiler was illegally demolished last year. In order to make this fantastic dream of actually having The Broiler return as a 1950s style restaurant, we are asking for your support at a very important City Council meeting this coming Tuesday, February 26th, 2008
